NZ souvenir spoon bracelets

For my sisters I crafted some handmade jewellery. A little quirky and kitsch and kiwi themed, these bracelets are constructed from Souvenir Spoons, jump rings and old coins no longer in use. I wanted to craft something unique for my two sisters and I as keepsakes and they double as great reminders for when travelling abroad, your never too far away!

Here is the process. My husband helped me with these bracelets (with the power tools bit) so I can’t take all the credit.

Firstly I had a bunch of spoons I had been meaning to make into rings and never really got around to it. I started some of them, bending, manipulating the amalgam and plated metals but they never felt resolved and professional as I thought they should have. So back to the drawing board and I came up with a charm style bracelet idea instead. I’ve never seen one in this style before and I had a suspicion it would work.

So armed with my ideas and a bunch of spoons I headed off to the man space (garage) where my husband lurks and asked for his assistance with the man tools (power tools, or ones that I’m liable to slice a nail off with etc).

My husband was good enough to chop the heads off, file them down and drill holes in each side. I meanwhile popped the discs off and rotated them 90 degrees so the pieces sat horizontal, then hot glued back place.

In the next step I added jump rings between pieces and started joining them together.

In my bag of tricks I also found some cute little metal gingerbread men charms and a few old NZ coins to add into the bracelets to give them a more eclectic quality.

Each roughly bracelet measures 20cm in length and has solder joins on the jump rings for extra security.
